Here are the real things that helped us get our first 10,000 users:

💙 Friends who let me use their pictures so it wasn't a complete ghost town in the app 
💙 A lot of time in bars, pubs and clubs exchanging downloads and emails for shots 
💙 Tumblr - our first acquisition channel at $1/install - the ultimate Sapphic growth channel 😢 
💙 A brand I felt proud of - coming from a brand background I wanted an identity I felt confident to take to our ignored audience 
💙 Email for retention / resurrection - weekly newsletters from me that started building a relationship with our users

We spoke to Robyn Exton (she / her), founder of the queer dating app HER App, to find out more about her thoughts on a new lesbian dating app which reports to use facial recognition technology to exclude trans users.

She notes the launch of this new app only for lesbian women during Pride as "disappointing." 

This is a month where we’re supposed to talk about rights, equality and equal access for our whole community and this is the time when you choose to build a platform that you intentionally discriminate against part of our community," Exton said.

Exton launched HER in 2015 as a welcoming dating community for queer women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people.

HER founder denounces new trans-exclusionary lesbian dating app

Dating apps that focus on specific identities and communities are thriving 🚀. We see the frustration and disappointment people are experiencing with dating and it is hard out there.
